About Most Noble Equestrian Order of Saint James
The Most Noble Order of Knighthood of Saint James was established in 1290 by Count Floris V of Holland, founded as a chivalric order. The modern Order is associated with the House of Bentheim, which is regarded as the legal successor of the Counts of Holland. Its objective is the preservation of chivalric norms and values. The Order is first mentioned in surviving documents in a chronicle from the early 14th century (Chronyk van Holland, van den klerk uit de laage landen by der zee [...]). The modern Order is a community of knights structured in the form of a faith-based organisation, holding the exact same legal recognition as e.g. the Order of the Holy Sepulchre in The Netherlands.
